Hi! I’m Balpreet

I am driven to support you in your journey because I know what it feels like and I pursed this line of work due to my personal experiences. I am a first-generation Canadian. My parents immigrated to Canada from India. Growing up, having feet in two cultures, I struggled to find my place and role in my community. In the small-town where I grew up, I was one of two people of colour. This made me feel isolated, alone and different. As a South Asian female it was challenging to navigate life because I wanted to fulfill my cultural and familial responsibilities, but I also wanted to fit in with my peer group. Choosing to move away to university was an internal battle which caused anxiety, guilt and panic. I have experienced firsthand personal struggles with self-esteem, my purpose, identity and relationships as a result of my divided commitments and responsibilities. For years it felt as if I had two identities and I was not being my authentic self. My ability to navigate and overcome personal chaos and crisis has allowed me to become a better parent and partner. Now, I am a person who loves who I am and I teach my children to respect their heritage and culture, but also to purse their individuality. My lived experience has shaped me and I hope that my unique perspective will help bring insight and compassion to support you in your unique journey.  

I believe you and your family are you unique and therefore, require a specific plan of care to support your distinctive healing process. I use a client-centred approach supported by evidence-based interventions. Your plan of care will focus on goals and resiliency so you can obtain your aspirations. I also incorporate holistic techniques such as meditation and reiki to help achieve wellness.  I believe that talk therapy is just one step in the healing/recovery process, which also involves a need to have active goals, dreams, hopes and be engaged within one’s community/family.  It is my job to help navigate and guide you to overcoming barriers such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family/relationship issues, communication/emotional concerns, school/career issues and feelings of hopelessness. We do not get “do overs” in life! Let me help you gain the skills you need so you too can live your most authentic life.
